At Soul-Mind Connection Counseling, we believe becoming a great clinician takes more than what you learn in the classroom. Our internship program gives emerging professionals an opportunity to develop their skills, discover their professional identity, contribute their ideas, and experience the many different aspects of working within a growing mental health practice.
More Than an Internship
Your internship should be a place where you are challenged, supported, and given room to grow.
Interns at Soul-Mind Connection aren't here just to watch. Depending on their educational level, experience, and placement requirements, interns may have opportunities to participate in clinical services, psychoeducational programming, community outreach, research, program development, policy review and development, professional training, and the behind-the-scenes work involved in operating a mental health practice.
We encourage interns to ask questions, bring ideas to the table, explore their interests, reflect on their experiences, and gradually take on greater responsibility as their skills develop.
What Your Experience May Include
Clinical Experience — Client engagement, assessment, treatment planning, documentation, interventions and case conceptualization when appropriate to the intern's educational level.
Supervision & Professional Development — Regular supervision, reflective practice, feedback, skill development and opportunities to explore professional identity.
Expressive & Creative Therapies — Exposure to creative interventions and opportunities to think beyond traditional talk therapy.
Groups & Workshops — Help research, develop, facilitate or evaluate psychoeducational groups, workshops and wellness programming.
Community Engagement — Outreach, resource development, community partnerships, health fairs and increasing awareness of accessible mental health services.
Research & Program Development — Explore evidence-based practices, develop resources and curricula, and help turn ideas into programs.
The Business of Private Practice — Gain exposure to some of the operational and entrepreneurial elements involved in growing a group practice.
Leadership Opportunities — As interns develop, we encourage them to take ownership of projects, contribute ideas and share their voice.

You don't have to arrive knowing everything. You do need to arrive ready to learn.
We value individuality. We don't expect every intern to think, communicate, or practice exactly the same way. We want students to develop their own professional voice while learning to practice ethically, responsibly, and intentionally.

A Day in the Life of an SMC Intern
Your day might include...
Meeting with a client → supervision → researching an intervention → creating an activity for a group → contacting a community partner → completing documentation → helping develop a new program → ending the week with reflective journaling.
